The Tranquillity Flight mission logo continues the recurring Celestis theme of astronaut wings enveloping planet Earth as the Celestis payload – symbolized by the star rising in a plume of smoke – leaves the planet on its mission of purpose. The lunar surface beckons at the top of the design, inviting the spacecraft’s precious cargo – the Tranquillity Flight participants – to their final resting place. The numeric symbol “2” is prominently displayed, proclaiming the second time a Celestis spacecraft has reached the Moon, and establishing for all eternity the truly historic nature of this flight.
Every Celestis mission has its own logo, mission patch and lapel pin following the tradition of creating a unique identity for each launch dating to the earliest days of the American space program. Eric R. Gignac is the Celestis Tranquility Flight mission logo designer.
